Hiring Process
Becoming a Law Enforcement Officer
The standard process of becoming a law enforcement officer in the LSPD is as follows.
- Complete an interest application and submit it to the LSPD.
- Complete an in-person interview at the police department.
- Attend and complete a 2-3 hour academy.
- The academy goes over general classroom topics and some on-field trainings.
- Complete a cadet phase where you receive on-field training from a Training Officer.
- Complete a probationary phase where you are solo-cleared.
- Have a performance review with a member of LSPD Command where you are analyzed on your performance since day 1.
- Graduate the probationary phase and become a full fledged offier of the LSPD.
This process can take anywhere from 2 weeks to month depending on experience and performance.
Expectations of a Law Enforcement Officer
Officers within the LSPD are expected to behave with a level of professionalism when conducting their duties.
Officers are still held accountable for their actions even when off duty. Actions made by officers off duty represent the police department.
